The SEGA Saturn was released to the United States on May 11, 1995. It had 2 computers and 3 32-Bit processors. Unfortunately because of this, 3rd party developers had a hard time making games for the console. It fell behind the Nintendo 64 and Sony PlayStation and ended it's run in 1997, with the last 1st party game being released in February 1998. Because of it's low sales, the console is very under-rated and considered to be a failure.
The controller is simmaler to the Genesis 6-button pad. It has a D-Pad, A, B, C, X, Y, and Z buttons, shoulder buttons, and a start button. When it was first launched in the United States, SEGA decided to design a different controller but it was faulty and people requested for the Saturn to be bundled with the Japanese design, simmaler to the Original Xbox "Duke" controller in 2001. There was also a controller released for 3D games wich had an analog thumbstick and was a bit bigger in size that first came bundled with NiGHTS.
It has some internal memory, saving games with a watch battery. It didn't save much though, so SEGA released a memory cartridge for the cartridge slot.
The console is fairly big. It has 2 controller ports on the front, and a cartridge slot behind the disc drive.
Notable games include: Sonic Jam, Virtua Cop, Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 1 and 2, and NiGHTS into Dreams.
It was also notable for it's rather strange advertising. Here's just one of those commercials:
