Considered the 10th best console of all time by GameTrailers, the SEGA Dreamcast is pure fucking awesome.
The controller is uniquely shaped and comes in a good variety of colors (White, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Black, etc.)
The VMU (Virtual Memory Unit) Memory Card is a pretty cool feature. So far only 1 out of 3 systems to have the Memory Card plugged in to the controller (the others being Nintendo 64 and Original Xbox). Developers made some mini-games and LCD animations for these that are fun to look at.
The system itself is pretty small. But it weighs so much (I think it may weigh 7 - 10 pounds). There's 4 controller ports on the front for great multiplayer action. It also has a modem on the back for online gaming and web browsing, though most servers are shut down now.
Notable games include: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Jet Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi, Marvel VS Capcom 1 and 2, Soul Calibur, NHL, NFL, and NBA 2K.
My opninion on it: Very cool system. I could have it plugged in my TV forever. Very nice addition to my console collection and I don't think I'll ever give it away. SEGA sure knows how to make good hardware.
I'll give the system a 9/10.
Here's some of the Dreamcast's cool advertising (Besides the Sonic Adventure commercial. "The Love Glove"? C'mon, SEGA. Choose some better words! "Hey kids! Get your official SEGA Dreamcast condoms! Choose from Sonic, Tails, NiGHTS, Beat, or Dr. Robotnik!"):
And just for the fuck of things, A CNN REPORT:
A report from GameSpot TV (Wich we now know as X Play):
And a GREAT documentary on the system's launch (shot September 9, 1999):
CNBC report about SEGA's plan to take down the PlayStation 2:
A cool/funny (at the end) fan made commercial:
G4's "Icons" Episode (Part 1):
